What do we do?
Welcome to GEAS
GEAS is the Roleplaying Society of the University of Edinburgh, in Scotland.We exist to help all roleplayers, and in fact any other type of gamer, find each other, find a place to play their games, and generally make gaming, as a hobby, fun in Edinburgh. Although the society primarily exists to provide facilities for students and staff at the University we also have a large contingent of non-university members and links with many other groups in and around Edinburgh, such as the card gaming, wargaming and science fiction/fantasy societies at Edinburgh and other Universities, to name but a few.
What things does GEAS do?
Our main service is to provide rooms twice a week where our members can meet, as well as a large library of roleplaying books, scenarios, and so forth. We also try to foster a society where gamers can meet with each other and find other people who share their passions. Once a year we also run a two day convention, Conpulsion, and we run various smaller events throughout the year, such as during our University Fresher's week.
How do we Work?
GEAS is run as a University Society. Once each year we hold an AGM at which we elect a council to run the society for the year. Due to University regulations the top three posts, Secretary, Treasurer and President, must all be students. Beyond the Council we have a mixed membership of students and non-students, each of which pay a small (£2) annual fee to help us run our events and purchase books for the Library. Other than this fee for membership, and a standard door charge at the convention, we do not charge our members for any of the services we provide.
