The Constitution of GEAS The Roleplaying Society 1995 - 1996
Article 1
The name of the society shall be the Grand Edinburgh Adventuring Society, and
shall be referred to by its intials, thus demonstrating the compulsive nature of
the Society's activities. Outwith the Society, the Society shall be known as
`GEAS: The Roleplaying Society.'
Article 2
The object of the Society will be to foster the cause of all roleplaying games.
Article 3
The Grand Council of the Society shall be formed of ten officers: A Grand
Master; a Chancellor; a Chief Scribe; a Keeper of Mystic Scrolls; a Crier; a
Guardian of the Sacred Chamber; a Minister; a Minister's Acolyte; a Chronicler;
and an Envoy. The Grand Council will responsible for the efficient running of
the Society. Each member shall be responsible for their own area, yet shall be
answerable to the Grand Council, who have the right to overrule any decision by
a simple majority.
Article 4
It will be the duty of the Grand master to see to ther efficient running of the
Grand Council, and to the well-being of the Society, generally. The Grand
Master has an extra vote in the event of a tie.
Article 4b
The post of the Grand Master connot be held by the same individual for more than
two consecutive years.
Article 5
It will be the duty of the Chancellor to take charge of the financial accounts
of the Society. The account to be reported at the following rates:
- 1 gold piece - £ 1 sterling
- 1 silver piece - 10p
- 1 copper piece - 1p
All members are to pay the Chancellor the minimum amount set by Societies'
Council yearly, as tithes. Members of the Society who are not matriculate
students of the Universities of Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt or Napier must pay tithes
to the sum of double the above amount per year.
Article 6
It will be the duty of the Chief Scribe to make records of the Grand Council,
and to keep in contact with all members of the Society. It is also their
responsibility to maintain some contact with the outside world.
Article 7
It will be the duty of the Keeper of the Mystic Scrolls to ensure that all the
literature owned by the Society is kept in good and secure condition, and is
available to the members at designated times. The Keeper has the right to
impose and enforce time limits on borrowing.

It will be the duty of the Crier to publicise the existence of the Society and
any activity thereof.
Article 7a
It will be the duty of the Guardian of the Sacred Chamber to look after said
Sacred Chamber and give admittance to any member who is deemed worthy. The
Guardian is also responsible for the acquisition of supplementary chambers for
society use.
Article 9
It will be the duty of the Minister to advise the Grand Council on all matters
discussed at any meeting of the Grand Council, to organise an annual convention.
The Minister shall be responsible for the formation of a minor council for the
purpose of organising said annual convention.
Article 9a
It will be the duty of the Minister's Acolyte to assist the Minister in the
organisation of the afore mentioned annumal convention, and to be ordained into
the Minister's post on the Grand Council in the following year.
Article 10
It will be the duty of the Chronicler to oversee and administrate all
publications of the Society, both paper and electronic.
Article 10b
In any situation where the Grand Council overrule a Chronicler's decision, the
situation must be fully explained to all members at the next General Synod.
Article 11
It will be the duty of the Envoy to seek liaisons between the Society and other
organisations, and to obtain sponsorship form outside the University.
Article 12
The Grand Council will be selected each year at a General Synod of the whole
Society, with the exception of the Minister and his Acolyte, who will be chosen
at an Exceptional Synod. The General Synod should be held in winter, preferably
underground. All members must be informed of the General Synod at least two
weeks in advance. An Exceptional Synod may be called at any time by the quorum
of the Grand Council, which is six, or at least one quarter of the whole
Society, and again, two weeks notice must be given to all members of the
Society.
Article 12a
The quorum for a synod will be one third of the regularly attending membership.
Article 12b
All matriculated students of the Universities of Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt and
Napier are eligible for membership of the Society. Others may join the Society,
but the number of non-student members shall be restricted to one quarter of the
total membership fo the Society. Non-students may attend and vote at meeting of
the Synod, and may serve as ministers on the Grand Council, provided this does
not contravene any regulations imposed by the Societies' Council.
Article 12c

Article 13
All elections to the Grand Council shall be by the democratic vote of the
members of the Society. Influencing the ballot by means of spells, psionics or
vampiric disciplines will not be tolerated.
Article 14
Proxy votes are not allowed.

Mandrills and Bishops have purple in common.
Article 17
The Grand Council shall have the power to apoint special ministers to the
Council, subject to the approval of the majority of the members of the Grand
Council. There shall also be sub-committees chaired and established by full
members of the Grand Council. Members of these sub-committees are not
necessarily Special Ministers.
Article 18
The constitution of the Society is considered to be 18, giving the Society plus
three on all hit dice. The constitution may only be changed at a General Synod,
and then by approval of three-quarters of the Synod.
Article 19
Meetings of the Grand Council are open to any member, to state their views
through the Grand Master and have bread rolls thrown at them.
Article 20
Magic, fully automatic, smart, cyber-linked, or energy weapons may not be
brought to meetings of the Grand Council, nor may holy symbols be carried by
those with True Faith.
Article 21
The nature of the constitution is such that it is considered lawful, but its
alignment is definitely chaotic. Article 24 is to be written in Copper Dragon.
Article 22
Infringement of the laws of the Society shall be penalised by subjection to the
Halls of Testing, to be devised by the Grand Council, and in addition, the
offendign member shall lose half his charisma points.

Article 32
Life membership shall be awarded by a three-quarters majority of the voting
attendance of a quorate General Synod, the candidate having been proposed by a
current member of the Society
