Steampunk

Steampunk is a recent genre in both roleplaying and science-fiction which mixes the image of a Cyberpunk dystopia with the technology and culture of the Victorian Empire. In Steampunk worlds mechanical, rather than electronic, technology produces space craft and computers (As in William Gibbson's Difference Engine), and social stratification and an information culture is derived from a Victorian basis rather than that of the present day. Good examples of such systems are GDW's Space 1889 and Castle Falkenstein.

Cross the cyberpunk genre and the pseudo historical genre and base it in the age of steam. Unfortunately here an argument rises. Castle Falkenstein is steam punk, the corruption of the unseeli is everywhere and the oppression and decadence of a Victorian era reek of cyberpunk. Space 1889 has the oppression and decadence of the Edwardian era, but it doesn't have the in build inevitable end, and the dark corruption of Castle Falkenstein.

Mind you a case could easily be made that in fact they are both Pseudo History, its just that one favours being played in a dark style. Seems okay.
