RPGA

The RPGA or 'Role Playing Games Association' is a worldwide organisation of AD&D players. (Though it is only affiliated with TSR.) Organised into 22 regional divisions (each with a director) and 30 or more seperate clubs the RPGA has over 8000 members, sponsors many tounaments, and publishes Polyhedron magazine.

The RPGA claims to be the most organised and efficient Roleplaying Society, and this is almost certainly true. The RPGA specialises in running competition games at conventions, and has an exacting set of guidelines describing how tournament games should be organised, run, and scored.

Critics of the RPGA, of which there are, to be honest, many. Say that the RPGA's style of competition gaming is antithetical to what many hold to be real roleplaying. To these critics the RPGA is mechanistic, buerocratic and stifling of creativity. Indeed for each society that activly embraces the RPGA standard there is one that refuses to have anything to do with them.
