Black Tongue of Brias

The Black Mage Brias of Chald was infamous for his intrigues even in a city of intrigues. He is said to have come close to single-handedly overthrowing the Council of the Winds and enslaving the entire city under his sole rule. When his coup failed the Council of the time ordered that he be torn apart by Crdlu, and his various body parts displayed around the lands of Chald as a warning to others.

For reasons best known to themselves some of Brias' followers stole their leader's tongue from where it was nailed and made off with it. Stories tell that the tongue turned black when exposed to the sun, and has been passed down from follower to follower within a cult of Brias ever since.

The Tongue resembles a shrivelled piece of black leather or ancient flesh in the shape of a long pointed tongue. Outside a Keldian body it does nothing, its powers are revealed only if it is touched to the stump of a severed tongue inside a living person's mouth (not a situation most people are keen to manufacture). When this happens the Tongue bonds to the flesh of its new host and takes over as their tongue, though it does not lose its colour or pointed shape. The only way to remove the Tongue at this point is the obvious, cutting it from its new owner's flesh.

Once the tongue has been implanted the deceitful powers of Brias are bestowed upon the owner. Words spoken by the tongue are beguilingly persuasive. The speaker gains +6 Oratory whenever they speak their words in person, they can tell almost any lie and have it be believed. If they take one Spirit damage they may tell lies so damaging that they immediately inflict Social Damage equal to their Subterfuge to any target present. At the same time the tongue inflicts a terrible cost, the words of the Tongue are so twisted that they cannot correctly pronounce truth. Whenever the speaker tries to have a normal conversation they will always sound like they are lying or manipulating, and they suffer -2 Status. The more important and urgent the information they are trying to convey the worse the side effect is. Eventually even the words of others start to sound like lies, and the speaker loses all ability to tell real words from falsehoods. They gain 1 Insanity point each month that the Tongue is part of them.
Gauntlets of the Dragon
KeywordsWorn, Implant
Treasure6
Price17
The Gauntlets of the Dragon are a pair of heavy gloves sewn from Slow Dragon hide and edged with copper studs. The inside is soft Crdlu calf leather. If the Gauntlets are worn on both hands (they have no effect if donned singly) then the wearer has their Physical Attribute raised by 5 (this also raises their Phys Bonus, and therefore melee weapon damage). Unarmed attacks inflict an additional 2 Lethal Damage when the Gauntlets are worn. Fine dexterity suffers, however, and the wearer has -5 on all tasks involving fine manipulation while the Gauntlets are on.

Over time the Gauntlets begin to bond with their user, becoming harder and harder to remove. After 25 days of use the Gauntlets are permanently bonded to the hands, and can never be removed again. Once bonded, both the bonuses and penalties become permanent, and the wearer loses almost all sense of touch. Removing the Gauntlets and bathing your hands in a fresh spring for five days in a row resets the count of use. Once bonded, the Gauntlets can only be removed by severing the owner's hands at the wrist (or killing him) at which points the Gauntlets naturally fall free of the flesh beneath.
Obsidian Eye
KeywordsImplant
Treasure9
Price16
The Obsidian Eye is a black glass sphere about the same size as a normal eyeball. An iris and pupil, inlaid with silver and lapis, are carved on one side. On examination the eye radiates an aura of Black Order magic, but otherwise appears inert.

The Eye has no power unless it is used to replace the missing eye of a living Keldian. When inserted into an eye socket in this way the Eye bonds with its new owner, and cannot be removed without injury. When implanted the lapis pupil widens, and appears to glow with a faint blue radiance as long as the eye is open.

The bearer of the Eye has their vision altered to reveal hidden or magical things. They gain the Passing Gift and +4 Observation at all times, and have a chance to notice hidden items, concealed doors, and the like even when not actively searching. (Make an unresisted roll of Intelligence + Observation -5).

In addition, by concentrating, they can see the flows of magic that move through the world, which appear as networks of luminescent blue lines. By following these flows they can detect active and passive spells, find magical items, or use Tracking to follow the traces of recently cast spells back to their caster. A roll of Int + Sorcery will allow them to locate an area in which magical flows are stronger (spells get a free power level) or weaker (+1 Channelling) if one is nearby. Using the eye in this way is taxing, inflicting one fatigue for every 10 minutes of use.

The final power of the Eye is the most potent, and also the most dangerous for the bearer. By looking another person directly in the eye (and taking a point of Lethal Damage) they may see into their mind and soul, discovering the most important secret that the target wishes to hide at the moment of contact. The target can resist the gaze by winning a contest of Presence versus Will (each attempt takes one combat round). If immediately revealed this secret instantly inflicts 6 Social Damage. Alternatively it may be held back for other purposes. The target of this power is always aware that their mind has been plundered, and conceives an instant hatred for the Eye bearer, and a desire to own the Eye. If they can cut the eye from the bearer's head and place it into their own, then all secrets taken from them are instantly forgotten by all who heard them.
